In 2017 my daughter and I found this pub on our walking exploration of Galway. The security man at the door was so welcoming (something that we don't experience in Australia - a welcoming doorman) and encouraged us to have a great time. The pub was very busy and there was a semi final for hurley on the tellies (great to watch and have this explained by some local men). Also there was great live music going on and everyone in the bar was singing at top voice. We had such a great time and were made to feel so welcome.
So much so, that when my husband and I visited Galway recently, along with two of our friends, I insisted that we had to return to this pub to truly experience Irish pub atmosphere at its best. Again it was very busy with a large entourage of young folk coming in. Loved the fact that young and old could mingle, chat and enjoy the excellent live music, again singing at the top of our lungs.
We went back to the pub on the Saturday morning to watch Australia/Ireland Rugby test match (of which Ireland won - much to the delight of the locals). It was great again, mingling with the locals and enjoying a bit of ribbing with the defeat of the Aussies.
The bar staff are incredibly fast and seem to keep a track of drinks and what everyone was drinking. Let's just call us gobsmacked with how good they were.
This was one of my favourite Irish pubs, for the music, engaging with some locals and just good fun.
What a spot such good craic we will definitely be back I must say the staff (doc and brian shorty) are the best couldn't do enough for us !!so friendly and helpful. Best spot in town lads by far :-)
Went there 3 years ago and I keep wonderful memories of your place. Great music, great atmosphere and hospitable staff, I still have the Guinness coaster you gave me. Hope to come back soon. Cheers from Brittany!
