I was some what surprised by this hotel, especially as so close to the main A1 Belfast to Dublin Rd. I'd seen the hotel on many occasions having driven pass it. On approaching the hotel, I noted it was on both sides of the old Dublin Rd, one side the main hotel, the other side additional bedrooms, fitnessand banqueting suite. Parking was straight forward and a car park was situated on both sides of the road. A lovely garden was also on the opposite of the road and was a place of quietness with delightfully gardens, lawns and hedges. On entering to foyer, I found a liovely brightsitting area with loads of armchairs and views to the mountains. Registering was straight forward with well manner and lovely girl, who were happy to answer any question. We were staying at the hotel as we had been invited to a wedding reception.
The reception staff explained everything in detail right down to timings for bar and breakfast. We went to our room which was situated on the second floor, it was bright clean and plenty of sitting chairs. Bathroom was well stocked and for those that enjoyed a cupping, there was plenty of tea, sugar, milk and something extra special biscuits. And to make sure we enjoyed the cupping, a large beaker. After a boutique half an hour we went down to the bar to have early dinner and although the menu HD only about 20 main meal items, I was able to order a carbonara and my wife had a mini chicken wedges with chips. Well when I saw the carbonara, I was taken back by the size, at least two breasts with loads of bacon, a real treat. I couldn't even finish it which shows what it was like. A to finish off a pint of lager tops. That evening we were over in the banqueting suite and was it large three bars.
Breakfast next day was treat, however this is where the hotel let's itself down, as it was too small and getting to a table was like doing an obstacle course. But what made my breakfast, was favourite, kippers. I have always loved them and to have them for breakfast is some thing I always look forward to and having stayed at 5 star hotels (example Powers court Hotel) which never had them on the menu, but for a three star to have them is exceptional. The hotel cost us £98 for the both of us B&B. A lovely stay.
