With it being our last night of our honeymoon we wanted to go out with a bang and damn did we ever! This was the BEST meal we've had in Dublin!! The staff was amazing, the food was unreal and the beer even better.. We will definitely be back!!
To begin - let me say the food is absolutely incredible . What let me down was the small tables/ staff in-attentiveness/ the decor/ and the price tag.
I ordered the prawns for starters; but for 11 i felt the meal lacked size and creativity. The sauce was overbaringly spicy and too much garlic was added for my liking.
For mains i ordered the fillet, which couldnt be faulted. It was cooked incredibly, I have no complaints for the 34 euro hefty pricetag. But to me, good food is good food and I dont mind paying once the price coinsides with the taste!
To finish we all shared the sticky toffee pudding, brownie and lemon yogurt dish. All very nice, presentation decent, no complaints.
For food it was 4.5/5 for me.
But let me say why it went down in my books.
The furniture is very cheap. We were seated in the middle of the floor, there was 6 of us at a 4 person table. In all fairness - it was match day, but squashing people into a table is a big no in my books.
The match was being shown - and pop music like rihanna etc was being played (in a restaurant, a very expensive restaurant may i add??). I just didnt get it.
The service was very average, came and went when plates had to be cleaned. The table was so small we had to put the ice bucket on the floor which they barely even acknowledged.
The decor was very like a pub. Sqaushed people, loud music, busy atmosphere.
If im going to pay the money like im in a restaurant, theres things i expect while in a restaurant. (in my opinion!)
If the price was decreased that little bit - itd be my go to spot. Something just has to be do to coinside the atmosphere with the pricetag.
But excellent excellent food.
I have been here twice recently for Sunday lunch with the family. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The menu is simple and everything so far that we have had has been top rate. The children's menu is fresh and tasty. Recently the kids had fish and chips. The fish was fresh and the batter light and crispy and just the right portion for them. I would however like to see a veg portion offered with the fish and chips even it it's just peas.
I love the different types of gin and tonic on the menu and the way they are served. If you like a G & T this place has to offer the best varieties in town and the way they are served is beautiful.
The wine list certainly offers variety and value. What I especially love is the fact that many of the wines are offered by the glass, which is very handy if you are having lunch and don't fancy a full bottle.
On both occasions I have had the ribeye steak as my main and it has been excellent. Cooked to perfection with a lovely peppercorn sauce. It's huge by the way. Overall this place is certainly worth a visit and I can't wait to try it some evening without the kids.
Have loved chophouse for drinks for a few years, they have a really great selection of wines and a luxury gin and tonic menu, but I finally tried the food last night for my birthday dinner and it was fabulous, as was the service! Drinks wise- if tried a few of their wines! Favourite is definitively their NZ Sauvignon, it goes down way too easy but it 8.50 a glass as are most of the really nice glasses! The red tacchino estate really compliments a steak! Gin wise Iv worked my way through their menu and my very fav is the brockmans, which comes with grapefruit and blackberries! But the monkey 47 and bloom are fab too!
When you're dining in chophouse they bring you over a large bread basket and the breads ate irresistible- nutty brown bread, brioche and tomatoe breads. Which I personally can never leave, we ended up having 2 baskets as we were given one while drinking with friends before our actual dinner sitting. I decided I would have to try a steak as its their speciality and I was impressed that the waitress brings over a big plate of the steaks raw to show what each steak looks like. We ended up going for the 1kg sharing rib eye steak for 64 euro and included in that we got fries, green beans, spicy prawns, creamy mashed potatoes and 3 steak sauces- bearnaise, pepper and garlic butter! When the meal arrived it was slightly rarer than we like so it was taken back for another few mins cooking, the waitress was the one who instantly asked us if it looked to rare so no awkwardness there. What a feast unfolded! We are pretty much every last bite, given rib eye is a fatty cut, there was some natural waste but it was divine! And all the trimmings really set it off! Perfect birthday meal! We had mentioned it was my birthday while having drinks so they ended up bringing me out a little slate with a candle and a chocolate and nut brownie which had fabulous vanilla bean icecream and raspberry coulis! It was truly a lovely evening, and every last bite was scrumptious!

Tried The Chophouse at taste of Dublin and it was lovely! Had a small plate of steak, chips and bearnaise sauce. Considering it was taste and they were serving so many people I was surprised the steak tasted so good! Dying to go and try this place!
We were welcomed by a very friendly manager and immediately shown to our table.
Within minutes a basket of bread was placed on the table , the bread was delicious it was a mixture of tomato and fennel , and Guinness and multi seed.
The kids were given kids menus, which had activities for them to colour on and they were also given a plastic glass full of crayons. The kids menu had a few options which included chicken , steak and Goujons , pasta , chips and potatoes and you could mix and match. The also get a juice and a dessert all for €9.50.
The waitress took our drinks order and gave us the menu and showed us the specials board on the wall which had a lot to offer for one day it had at least 7 specials my husband chose the chopboard fish board to start which was a tempura of Hake , crispy fish cake , Tuna Tartare & crab Salad and it was very reasonably priced at €12.50.
For my starter , I had Scallops with a cauliflower purée. The scallops were really tasty and perfectly cooked as sometimes I find people tend to overcook scallops they were perfect. The purée that they were served with was perfect with them it was not to over powering with the scallops. €14.00
For our main course we shared the porterhouse steak, this is one of the best steaks we have both had in a very long time, it is served with green beans and carmelised onions and twice cooked chips. The price was €65 and that covered both of our main courses and we didn't need any side orders.
Overall the atmosphere was friendly . The ambience was warm and bright. The presentation of the food was excellent everything was very well presented. The service was efficient. The standard of food was superb. The staff were really friendly and had the banter with the kids. They had a great selection of desserts. They stocked a selection of non alcoholic beers.
I will definitely be back and would have no hesitation in recommending this the chophouse as a place to eat.
You'll probably see a lot of pulled pork photo's throughout my food journey on Zomato. I can't help it, this sandwich of deliciousness keeps pulling back in. This one was very nice and had a mix of different spices which the pork was cooked in. The sambo comes with crispy chips and a nice soft bun for 14 Euro. I left a happy customer.
