Last year, it was announced that the Copper Hen in Fenor, Co Waterford had received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. I turned to Himself, a Waterford native and asked where was Fenor exactly. It turned that it wasn't very far away from his hometown and I made a resolution to visit when next in Waterford. Fast forward a few months, and we finally got around to buying a new car to replace our much-loved 16 year old car. It was time for a road trip with our new wheels, and Sunday lunch duly was booked at the Copper Hen.

Last month saw another Zomato meetup, and my first visit to Suesey Street. First impressions of the place were great, the decor and outdoor terrace are beautiful. Definitely somewhere I can see myself spending alot of time in over the summer months! There's also a great private dining room which would be ideal for an occasion.

We were treated to a number of dishes from the new bar menu on the night including their signature burgers, pork pies, mini fish and chips & salt cod brandades. The highlight for me was the delicious crab salad which tasted amazing and really fresh. I look forward to visiting again soon for some more nibbles and drinks on their terrace. A great spot to begin a night out!

I was a long-time fan of Brasserie Le Pont, located on Fitzwilliam place. I visited it many times for lunch and Sunday lunch. I loved the dining room space and always enjoyed my meals there, despite the strong pinstripe suit crowd. I must admit that I was surprised when I heard that it was closing, to make way for a new venue. It didn't seem like a venue that needed a makeover.

I attended another Zomato Meetup this month, in the luxurious Suesey Street. Located at the top of Leeson Street, this restaurant has plush & sophisticated interiors, with a lounge bar and a fireside terrace that’s a truly hidden gem of Dublin City. The terrace is beautiful, with sofas along the walls, cushions & blankets, tables & chairs and a roaring fire that’s truly perfect for cold evenings in Dublin, where our group enjoyed some pre-dinner wine.

We ate from the Tasting Menu, which included 10 dishes from seafood to steak & pork pies to dessert. We started with the Dunany Crab Salad that was such a refreshing little bundle of joy on a plate. It was served with radish slices and a lime crème fraiche, which added to the light texture and zingy taste. Next up was the Salted Cod Brandade, which were crispy little balls filled with a perfect mix of cod, artichoke and herbs. The accompanying yogurt sauce was refreshing with this too, and as a whole this was true comfort food.

We then tasted three small dishes; Buttermilk Purée, Potato Crisp & Goatsbridge Trout Roe and Crisp Chicken Skin & Kale. The first dish was nice & light, with its mix of buttermilk and yogurt, accompanied by crunchy potato crisps and sprinkled with kohlrabi. The second dish included fish roe, which I’ve not yet had before so I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it, and its accompanying crunchy potato crisps & the creamy sour cream topped with dill were a tasty combination. The third of these mini dishes was possibly the tastiest; herb-spiced crispy chicken skin served with a truffle & hazelnut cream and crisp kale. Simple but so delicious!

We then moved onto the hearty dishes, starting with the Suesey Street Burger, which came on a freshly baked brioche bun with caramelised onions, Romaine lettuce, a homemade relish, Hegarty’s cheddar cheese & Gubeen bacon too. The beef was cooked perfectly, whilst still being soft and worked beautifully with all its toppings. Next came the Fish & Chips, which were breadcrumb-coated goujons of cod, with skinny-cut fries and generous dollops of tartare sauce. This was really delicious, such an Irish classic! Then we tasted the Pork Pies, one of the dishes I was most excited about trying as I adore meat in pies! It definitely didn't disappoint, with fall-apart pork as a result of having been slow cooked with mixed vegetables & apple sauce, within a crisp pastry and topped with pickled red cabbage. It was absolute heaven. To finish our savoury course, the John Stone Steak Sandwiches came out, cut into finger food sizes on ciabatta bread with a mustard sauce, watercress and caramelised onions. The rump steak was slow cooked to give a deliciously tender finish, and the ciabatta gave the dish great texture with its crisp outer and soft doughy inner.

After the mighty feast, we were spoiled with dessert; Warm Fig Bread served with milk ice cream. The slice of fig bread had a beautiful texture to it, a crunch on top with a moist middle and a delicious honey & fig flavour. The milk ice cream was beautiful, accompanied by half a roasted fig that were perfect with the bread. The dessert was also accompanied by a dollop of sour cream, that I felt wasn’t necessary to this dish as it only added bitterness, almost ruining the sweetness.

Overall this was a delectable tasting evening, and I will definitely come back to Suesey Street for more! The food is interesting with great flavours, a factor you expect from a high-class restaurant. The service was top-notch too. If you’re looking for fine dining, good wine and a tasty experience, I do recommend Suesey Street.

Myself and five others went to Suesey Street for dinner last night. It was fairly heaving, compared with its previous incarnation as Le Pont, and the dining room was definitely dominated by tables of ladies but the atmosphere was great.

For my starter I chose the pork belly with a chorizo and bean cassoulet which was beautiful. The pork was perfectly cooked but if I had one, very minor, criticism it would be that the cassoulet was slightly under seasoned but perhaps that's just my taste.

For the main course I had the duck breast with orange and braised red cabbage. It was gorgeous, especially the little nugget of what I guess might have been leg meat. A seriously wonderful dish.

The to finish, I had the caramelised white chocolate parfait with warm chocolate mousse. Good work the chef. The parfait was beyond creamy and the mousse was sublime.

We drank a remarkably delicious albarino which was well priced.

Suesey Street is a little pricier than your run of the mill dinner out but it is entirely worth it.

The setting and the staff, I should also mention, we're great. I also didn't take any photos because I was too busy eating.

Hey foodies. Zomato had another foodie meetup last week in Suesey Street and yours truly was invited along for a night of menu tasting. We were lucky enough to try their new ‘soon to be’ bar menu.

Suesey Street, Dublin 2 is an upmarket restaurant and wine bar with refined, european-inspired dishes, plus a heated terrace. The restaurant caters for up to 70 diners, they also offer a private dining area for up to 35 people.

We joined Wayne Cronin, PR manager for the restaurant, on a foodie panel and discussed each dish with him and gave our opinions on the new menu – all rave reviews!

We enjoyed lots of different dishes from the new lunch menu.

Crunchy Potato Crisps, Buttermilk and Yogurt Dip. I could have devoured an entire bowl of these light and crispy snacks. The buttermilk and yogurt dip makes a nice alternative to sour cream or mayonnaise base dips.

What a night to decide to stick to my gluten-free diet. Sadly, I chose not to try the freshly baked brioche bun that accompanied the burger, although I was very tempted, as it looked amazing!

The John Stone Steak Sandwich was next . Again with this dish I opted to eat the meat only and remove the crisp ciabatta. The rump steak was slow cooked, resulting in juicy, tender and delicious cuts of meat.

We enjoyed a Warm Fig Dessert. Served with milk ice cream and a tiny dollop of sour cream

I’m not a huge fan of figs but this dessert worked for me. I really enjoyed the mix of flavours and surprising loved the contrast of the sour cream.

The Verdict: Luxury setting, good menu with good selection of lunch options (not a huge selection for coeliacs) Good selection of wines and alcohol too!

I had the pleasure of trying Suesey Street's bar bites menu last Wednesday. It's such a chic spot - everything from the bar to the table settings, paintings and heated terrace with cosy fire make the place warm and inviting. Wayne looked after us really well, making us all feel at home for the evening.
We started with a drink by the fire and then moved into the restaurant where the table was beautifully laid out with lovely little personal touches.
We tried tasters of 9 dishes, my favourites being the cod brandade (amazingly light and crispy and the sauce was delicious) the Pork pie with red cabbage, the crab salad and potato crisp. The crisp was a really interesting bar snack, served with sour cream and trout roe, lots of lovely textures.
Although Wayne kindly planned the night on a quiet evening, I plan on revisiting when it's busier to get a sense of the atmosphere and what kind of music is played to get the full Suesey Street experience!

If I could give Suesey Street a TEN I would!

I was lucky enough to try a tasting menu here on Wednesday. The evening featured nine dishes that were either brand new to the lunch/dinner menu or a soon to be addition - all were as stunning as the next.

Among the delights was a Dunany crab salad beautifully accompanied with radish and a creme fraiche dressing, the most beautiful & moist pork pie with pickled red cabbage, chicken skin with a truffle & hazelnut dressing, battered cod & chips and one of the most tastiest beef burgers I've ever tasted.

Hat Tip to Chef Graeme Dodrill, Wayne, Karel and all the team. Suesey Street has made a fabulous first impression for me and I cannot wait to return and show it off to my family and friends.

Suesey Street has been on my list for a while and I finally got to eat there this week. I have to start off by saying, WOW! From the decor, to the staff and most importantly the food, they really know their stuff. I had the opportunity to try a selection of dishes off the menu and I must advise everyone to try their burger as well as the pork pie. They are absolute winners. But honestly, I loved everything I ate and there is so much selection, there is definitely something for everyone. Special shout out to the guinness and walnut brown bread - it was divine. I cannot wait to go back, this place is an absolute gem. I couldn't recommend it more.

An absolutely fantastic dining experience

Everything here was absolutely fantastic. Up entering the basement restaurant there is a lovely bar and area for casual drinks before making your way through to the main dining area.
The service we got here was brilliant from start to finish. The waiters quietly moved about their business and were always on hand to top up a drink, or answer a question politely and with a smile.

The food was sensational, every dish was bursting with flavour. I had salmon to start and the venison main, my girlfriend had the fois gras to start and the risotto main.
I have to say the fois gras and Venison both really stood out.
We split a chocolate dessert which was rich but not too heavy.

I cannot recommend this restaurant more. Our bill came to €120 for 2xstarters, 2xmains, a dessert and a bottle of wine...which I thought was an absolute bargain for the quality of food, level of service and beautifully relaxed atmosphere.
