Friendly warm environment. Me and my wife were so damn hungry after being jet lagged, and off on time the first few days of travel. Slept for 12 hours straight, woke up hangry and ready for food. Cute little restaurant close to the Clayton Hotel. Good price, fantastic Americano coffee, and lunch that was exactly what we needed. Waitresses were cute and friendly and even offered advice on how to spend our day around Dublin. I won’t probably go back because I’m travelling and have lots of places still to see, but I absolutely loved this spot.

Hard to find the restaurant as you walk through the bar. Bar seemed very old and looked like a real watering hole however keep walking you come to the stairs.
Tight fitting restaurant but still room to move around was actually packed. Menu offered good hearty food. Fresh fish of the day was salmon cooked to perfection with crispy skin. Loved the vegetables. The mushroom and aspharagas soup with creme fraiche was delicious.
The complimentary bread and butter is to die for. Very tasty.

Went in here last night for dinner with friends. Lovely venue and really nice staff. Early bird menu is a bit poor for choice so we all went a la carte. Both me and brian got burgers and our friends had the seafood linguine. Both boys got desserts and everyone had a drink. Food was really good and all plates were cleared. 4 mains, 2 desserts, 3 pints, 1 wine and 1 tea came to 110 euro.

I have often been asked by visitors where to get some good Irish food for which I usually have no recommendation, however The Sussex ticks all the boxes. We opted for the early bird menu (although the burgers looked amazing).

I had the heirloom tomato and mozzarella starter which was so fresh and tasty and my boyfriend had a smoked salmon starter which he thoroughly enjoyed. Both accompanied by some traditional brown bread. For main we tried the chicken supreme and the fish of the day which for me was the star of the show; filet of hake on a bed of gnocchi full of flavour I would highly recommend it! My only criticism is that I would have loved more gnocchi in the dish.

The atmosphere was great, the staff go above and beyond to give a very pleasurable experience which I think adds to the Irish charm of the restaurant. I would highly recommend The Sussex to a friends or visitors who want a real taste of fine Irish dining.

Eaten here on many occasions the food is great and the staff are polite and friendly. The place when full can be quite loud and it tends to attract big groups, which can become a bit rowdy- not ideal for date night. Hasnt put me off that much though as I keep coming back

Located above M. O'Brien's pub on Leeson Street Bridge you'll find a little bistro called The Sussex. From the moment you walk in you'll want to stay, before you've even seen the menu. You can quote me on that if you like, friends. The atmosphere is great and the décor understated - plenty of brass fixtures and dark wood tables. The Sussex is owned and run by chef Dave Coffey and manager Damien Quinn, who have created a great spot that serves top quality Irish food using the best local ingredients.
Our server was very friendly and attentive and let us know we were still in time for the early bird. Then he brought me my wine. This guy can do no wrong. The Sussex offer a varied lunch, dinner and early bird menu (2 Courses for €21.95, 3 Courses for €26.95) You can pair your food with Irish craft beers and cider and the wine list is varied and well priced. They offer a really good cocktail selection too which I wasn't expecting. Saying you had a Side Car at The Sussex has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

My lovely dining partner and I decided to forgo the early bird menu, because we're totally worth it. It took us a while to make a choice, the menu makes for a good read - burgers, steak, pasta, chicken, fish...super salads. A whole load of tasty unpretentious food. We started with a hearty bowl of seafood chowder and chilli and salt calamari for me. The calamari were perfect and surprisingly filling. Which both delighted and worried me. I had more food coming! I would easily have drank that lime and coriander dressing, if it were socially acceptable. We both had the chorizo burger (cooked medium) Gubbeen chorizo, buffalo mozzarella, sun dried tomato pesto and salad verde with a side of chips. Even though we were incredibly full, we finished with a macchiato and sticky toffee apple pudding. It was served warm, with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce.A fantastic little spot with great food. Next time I'll bring my parents, as I know they'll love it. As will yours!

Had not heard of the Sussex before going though my parents were big fans, and were the ones who suggested going for my birthday. Given the occasion we were all delighted with the atmosphere, it was ambient, and subtlety sophisticated. Both my father and I opted for the slow roasted pork belly, which was absolutely incredible. Given the quality of the food it is remarkably reasonably priced, given mains average at around €13. I have definitely paid more for food well below this standard. Would most certainly recommend to all.

So, today my other half and I ventured into Dublin's fair city for some tasty Irish grub. The Sussex is actually upstairs in the O Brien's Pub, Leeson street you'd nearly miss it. We drove around twice before we found it so keep your eyes out for O'Briens!

We went for the early bird menus which is €21.95 for two course and €26.95 for three course obviously we went for 3 course we love a good feed on a Sunday!

The staff were super friendly - service with a smile! We had no booking but I read online that walkins are welcome. We were seated in a matter of seconds and greeted with thick nutty brown bread and real butter - yum!

There's a fantastic selection of different foods on the menu enough to satisfy everyone. For starter I had the goats cheese, beetroot, walnut and watercress salad while David had the Tuna tartare (raw tuna) with chili soy dressing, avocado and wasabi & radish.

For mains we both went for the chargrilled striplion steak (€4 supplement) with skinny fries, béarnaise sauce which made a nice alternative to pepper sauce.

I decided to try something different for dessert the 'Lemon Posset' I had never heard of posset before so I wanted to give it a try. It's kind of a yogurt or light pudding. David went for the chocolate, banana, pecan brownie with vanilla ice cream, even though I'm not a fan of banana it was delicious!! The pecans were the perfect addition to the brownie YUM!

Overall we really enjoyed it, it's seconds from the canal and there's roadside parking outside.

If you didn't know it was there, it would be easy to miss, but the Sussex is a great little spot in Ballsbridge. The decor is lovely, very comfortable and homely with a modern twist. The staff are very attentive and friendly which lends to a really good atmosphere all round. On top of this, the food is really tasty. The menu is varied so there are options for everyone. I had the chicken and chorizo pasta which was super tasty, followed by one of the best brownies I have ever tasted! It is well worth a visit for sure.

The Sussex is easy to miss if you don't know about it, but definitely worth a visit. The interior is lovely, it has a traditional Irish feel without over kill or being too touristy. The service was fantastic and all the staff we friendly. I had the super food salad off the lunch menu. It was a heathy portion and tasted fresh. Whatever feta they used was perfect, there's nothing worse then when the feta is too salty. The whole table really enjoyed their meal and you could taste that all the ingredients were of high quality. To finish we got the toffee pudding and it was mouth watering. The picture doesn't do it justice!
