I was with a group of 10 girls and we had the bottomless brunch which was fab, food was lovely and the staff where excellent, I will definitely be recommending it to people visiting Dublin
Key lime pie meringue cocktail was by far the best cocktail I've ever had Highly recommend this place. Lovely food, great staff, and a book-full of drink options. Love this place
A group of 10 went for a bottomless prosecco brunch here, excellent food plenty of bubbles and all of the staff we very friendly and made you feel really welcome, especially Hugo! We will definitely be back.
Absolutely fantastic. Went with the family last night and absolutely everything about our evening was top class. Lovely friendly staff, amazing food and wine and great ambience. Will definitely be back!!!!
Celebrated my birthday here on Saturday with bottomless Prosecco brunch. I would highly recommend it - the food was great, the bubbles flowed and service was excellent! We're already planning our next trip!
Just back from a birthday dinner with ten friends. My second visit to this place and once again I am really impressed with the seamless service and the professionalism of this place. Beautiful wine and great food. The waitress was friendly, helpful, attentive despite the fact that it was a busy night. I'll be back again for sure. Am so happy to have this place in my neighbourhood.
Great food, wine and service! Very accommodating staff, left to chat without being interrupted. Prosecco regularly topped up and food was very tasty. Will definitely be back!
Food was so tasty and the staff are really friendly definitely a great spot for a girly brunch
Great food, fantastic service! We ducked in out of the rain and had a fabulous evening. The wine recommendation was right on and we ordered several starters to enjoy with it. The staff was fun, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable!
Easily the best brunch ive had in a long time. Bottemless prosecco and the food is outstanding. A special mention to Fergal who waited our table; funny and welcoming, he turned a lovely dining experience into a great experience full stop. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed the Prosecco brunch, and chilling in the sunny courtyard, lovely food and drinks selection
Excellent place for having decent wine and spirits collection!!! Great selection of rum, vodka, port, tequila and whiskey!!! They have some of the best decent priced (for Ireland) ;)
The wine choice is also pretty good with some smart choices from the classics and new world.
Also, knowledgeable stuff and great environment. Definitely recommend this place for having some drinks.
Quiet Tuesday night on a warm and cozy place to grab a nice drink and chat with friends. They have an extensive wine and cocktail menu along with some spirits. It was a quiet evening, great to taste a whisky while chatting some friends on our own comfortable corner. This place is very inviting and trendy. Good place to chill out, however will have to proper evaluate it on a busier night.
Had a couple of Tapas here recently while I was in the area. I was impressed with the food, all dishes were amazing, particularly the calamari and gambas pil pil. They've also got a great wine list along with a good selection of craft beers. A very cosy spot!
Come here a lot. The wine is exceptional and they have a mystery wine- guess what wine it is and win the bottle. Adds a bit of fun to the experience. Their smokey old fashions are wonderful. The food is consistently good. The steak is well priced at €26 and overall the dishes are well priced. Good atmosphere here and you really get the sense that the staff enjoy their job
Lovely spot. Had dinner here with a friend. The weather was great so we sat on the roof terrace. small and cute. Lovely menu.. I had the prawns amd the ribeye steak. Both were so tasty and cooked perfectly. Service was very good but I thought the wines were expensive.. Will go back !
Popped in here for some brunch over the weekend. The menu is really interesting. It has a good mix of what you would expect to see on a brunch menu with a few added extras. We had the French Toast and one of the grill options. Really nice! If you are looking for a different brunch place to try I would recommend this. Great set up with a nice atmosphere. I am looking forward to going back next time for either drinks or dinner.
Really nice venue, I prefer this one to the one in town. We sat at the bar and the girl who served us was really nice. I would really recommend the smokey old fashioned and the key lime pie. I haven't dined here but what I could eye up looked really nice. Can't wait to go back.
Went here on Saturday as one of my friends kindly got a voucher from Zomato. Had never been before, place was not what I expected at all! It's quite small inside but very cosy. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, recommending food and wine to us. I got the sirloin steak which was delicious and another one of the girls got the seabass which she also said was lovely. The espresso martinis here are so good. Great place to go for dinner!
Went here for dinner last night compliments of Zomato. Restaurant was buzzing and the trendy interior helped to create a good ambience for a Saturday night! The staff were very attentive, friendly and delivered excellent service. My friend and I both had the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection. The wine was on point and the espresso martini was the icing on the cake!
A good bottle of wine & delicious food will take you a long way in life. Went back here after close to a year, and found its still exceptional! Love the Chorizo, and will happily relax at The Exchequer till closing time!
This was the first time to exchequer with the foodie crew! Food was solid! There was a huge variety of tapas-styled starters. It's a nice addition to the Ranelagh area. We started with manchego croquettes, chorizo lollipops, pork meatballs, and crispy pork belly with black pudding. We also had Gnocchi, Pate negre, beef carpaccio, and steak! Really something to pair with any wine you choose!
They were very gracious hosts and I believe Mondays are termed Magnum-Mondays, which means they open a large bottle of wine and sell it by the glass. A great way to try new wines! We started with a Californian and finished with a Portuguese Tinto.
It was cool to see such community, I love when food brings like minded people together.
Was here for a group meal recently and have to say I wasn't disappointed. We ordered lots of dishes from the menu and shared them around which is my favourite way to eat usually! The steak was delicious, the chorizo lolly pops are divine and the cheese croquettes melt in your mouth like nothing else! The wine selection is as broad as you'd wish for, something for everyone, they even have a selection of nice beers for those who prefer a beer with their food.
It was midweek when we visited but the ambience was nice with extremely friendly service all through the evening! I'll most certainly be back for wine and more delicious tapas style dining!
My first time in the Exchequer did not disappoint.
Located right on the main drag in Ranelagh, it's a great place to go for a few drinks, appetisers or dinner.
We were served a variety of platters from the happy hour menu which is available from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday to Saturday and all night from Sunday to Tuesday.
Pork Meatballs, Beef Carpaccio, Chorizo Lollipops, Manchego Cheese Croquettes (my favourite), Pork Belly and Black Pudding (a close second) along with various other nibbles of cured meats, cheeses, olives and vegetables were served up to a hungry hoard of 14 foodies and not much was left on any plate
Excellent choice of wines here also and the staff are very knowledgable about what pairs well with each dish.
Highly recommended!

There’s so much choice for places to eat and drink in Ranelagh, to suit whatever your whims desire. Up to a couple of years ago, we lived in walking distance (dangerous) but now that we are a little further away we don’t find ourselves there as much as we would like. We didn’t book and decided to just head for Ranelagh and see what we fancied. We ended up in The Exchequer Wine Bar… and were very glad we did.
It’s at the town end of Ranelagh…otherwise known as the ‘not so busy’ end… places all the way through Ranelagh, from TriBeCa to The Butcher Grill, Dillingers, Milanos were all pretty full but The Exchequer had just a handful of people…but it was a Monday evening.
We took 2 stools at the bar. We are both fans of sitting at the bar in places like this, you can sit close together for chatting, and see all the going-ons behind the bar. When you enter The Exchequer Wine Bar, there’s a large table right at the window, perfect for a big group, then high tables and stools along the right hand side, opposite the bar. This opens up into a wider area with tables. There’s also a terrace area upstairs, (well hidden away).
Dark wood bar and tables, orangey tan leather stools and chairs, lots of displayed glassware and bottles over the bar, it’s a really nice space.
The menu is in many ways, typical wine bar fare – lots of meats and cheeses and breads, small tapas style dishes like croquettes and chorizo lollipops, salads, an oyster menu and then a few larger ‘main’ dishes such as Risotto, steak, slow cooked lamb shoulder… There’s an extensive bar menu including lots of cocktails and Gins! However we treated ourselves to a bottle of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa by Rutherford Ranch (€48). The wine was decanted which always makes it feel extra special! I really liked the wine list here at The Exchequer, a nice selection by the glass in 125ml and 175 ml pourings; highlights for me include Prosecco at €6.90, in the whites a Gavi di Gavi €7.50 (125ml) / €10.50 (175ml) and in the reds, a Douro, Sa de Baixo €5.00 / €7.00 or a Saint Emilion Bordeau, Chateau Lagrange at €6.50 / €8.90.
To pair with our Napa red, we chose a few dishes to share, the Irish cheese board (€14.95), the Italian meat board (€16.95) and a bruschetta (€9.95). Each of these were excellent with good selections in the cheeses and meats. The cheese plate contained St. Killian’s Camembert, Coolea and aged Cashel Blue, served with a fig chutney, crackers and grapes.
The Italian meat selection included San Danielle ham, coppa and Milano salami…served with pickles, capers and little toasted breads.
The Bruschetta was loaded with plum tomatoes, soft melty mozzarella, basil oil with leaves and black olives.
We finished up with the dark chocolate fondant, served with a vanilla mascarpone, to share… a decadent end to our meal and lovely with the last glass of our Cabernet.
There’s aren’t enough good things I can say about The Exchequer Wine Bar, not sure how it took us this long to visit. A perfect place to while away some time, nibbling on cheeses and meats, with gorgeous wines. I love the relaxed feel, its not snobby about wine, or pretentious and has wine at all price points. Will be back soon… still dreaming of all the lovely things we ate and drank there!

I’m a big fan of the Exchequer in the city so was expecting good things! And we weren’t disappointed. The interior is beautiful, lots of dark shiny wood with an impressive bar.
Towards the front there’s a large table perfect for a group to have some nibbles and a few glasses of wine and a catch up.
We ordered a few drinks and had a look over the menu. They have the same fabulous cocktail menu that’s available in town….
But we stuck to wine and beers.
The menu is quite typical of a wine bar with lots of anti pasti and cheeses on offer along with some tapas dishes and also a few larger meals of Smoked Haddock, Shoulder of Lamb or Steak. We decided to get some bread to nibble over while we waited for mains. E is getting more adventurous with food but will still almost always go for the steak so he chose the 10oz sirloin @ €21.95. I wanted a few little bits so got the Chorizo lollipops and Iberico and Manchego croquettes.
So first up was the bread – and a most impressive bread board! At €3.95 this was great value – the bread was fresh straight from the oven and I loved the quirky little mini loaves and the dips.
I got my couple of tapas dishes when E got his steak and we shared around a bit. The chorizo lollipops came with a lovely garlic aioli and were so good. I absolutely adore chorizo and this didn’t let us down.
I can’t decide which I loved more, those or the Jamon Iberico & manchego croquettes with a tomato tapenade – they were so crunchy on the outside and the filling was beautifully soft and creamy.
With the lollipops priced at €7.50 and the croquettes at €8.95 I think I could have done with 1 less lollipop in favour of 1 more croquette!
E’s steak was a winner. Presentation was fab with the crushed potatoes served in a little wire basket and some lovely veg slaw and watercress on the side. The steak was really good with a nice charred outside.
Our only problem came when we went to order the chocolate fondant for dessert but there was an issue with the oven – considering the place had literally just opened we forgave that and our waistlines probably thank them for this :-)
All in all it was €64.75 for 2 glasses of wine, a N/A beer, a soft drink, a bread board, the steak and 2 tapas dishes. We left absolutely stuffed and really impressed with the place.
The one thing to note is that it has a restaurant licence only right now so you can’t just drop in for a glass of wine at the moment, you must be eating. I’m not sure if they have plans to change that or not, but something to be aware of.
So – another fabulous spot in Ranelagh…. Now if only I could win the lotto and afford to live there! :-)
